And if you are using that skill or the ability of driving a vehicle to take you to the house of Allah subhanho wa Taala or even to take you to your

workplace because you'd like to earn some living and you will pay the cost of it and you will spend on your family and so on within permissible means that you will be rewarded.

This is knowledge you need to know. And remember one thing at

a 45 minute talk will not make you a very knowledgeable person, the only thing it can do for you is motivate you to learn more.

And this is why Mashallah We are so fortunate we have an institution like this, we make use of it. How regularly do we attend the lessons here? Or do we just wait for someone to come from outside or someone else to come? You know, and then we say no, today we will go but it's been a year since you will ask here. But this place has so much knowledge beaming from it. Why don't you make use of it.

Now last subhanho wa Taala governs us benefit of all the lessons that are taking place in homage to Allah He will be asked you know, this is something we firmly believe Allah subhanho wa Taala is going to ask us

that there were lessons around you.

People who are teaching this and teaching that Allah subhanho wa Taala will ask you how did you benefit from the masjid in your area? How did you benefit from the institutions within reach? How did you benefit from the knowledgeable around you? And to be honest with you, we are so lucky. I normally speak about education and knowledge and you know what I say?

as men has become lazy to read, the Almighty has facilitated education through means besides reading

what is that? Well now Mashallah you can put in a CD and now Mashallah you can sit with your favorite chair, based somewhere in Mecca or Medina or wherever else you want, and you can just click and you can sit and watch amazing

But we still don't do that. So Allah has made it so easy for us to learn because we've become lazier as time passes. Our forefathers had the patience to sit and read. And before that they had the power of memory where they do the year it once and it was over.

One of my own tutors yet Mohammed was stylish and pleasing Allah subhanho wa Taala grant him a long and healthy life and may he be used to serve the deen. He speaks of how the Mattoon, Mattoon meaning

Why? Because technology has made us lazy.

When we get the phone call, or should I say the latest phones, all the phone numbers are in it.

So the day the phone is lost, we are stuck. Whereas there was a time when we knew so many numbers. We could go to any little table and put it in without the book and you would know at least 20 numbers I think I can comfortably say I knew perhaps more than that, but 20 I can jot them down.

But Allah subhanho wa Taala has given us a gift that as we become lazy technology is progressing. So you do not have an excuse.

A few days ago one brother was asking me when I was here. He said, you know, we'd like to know some people are saying that the Hadith of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, you know, you should discount it and put it aside because the first I had these were only recorded hundreds of years after the messenger sallallahu alayhi wasallam. I said what

he said should meaning the brother was only questioning why or questioning what other people are saying. It wasn't his own belief. But he was he wanted to learn he wanted to know. I told him brother,

if I told you 50 years ago, or if I say now, why wasn't the Quran recorded on a CD?

You told me that technology was not there at the time, that time they used to, or you would say for example, that you know, we've got it written in books. So as technology progresses, we are beginning to use it. So now you find or on on a little phone, you find a heartbeat I have on my phone, what is called the Motorola Moto annex cyclopedia of Hades, which has in its so many books have added a click of a search and you know exactly where the addict is and what's wrong with it. All the narrators and so on. And it's so easy on the phone. Imagine. So I can't say why didn't this happen? 500 years ago, I'm not accepting it. I can't say that.

The point I'm making is at the time of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam. they relied on memory. They knew the lineage of the cattle dating back to 10 generations.

They knew the lineage of the cows. So now you want to tell me that look. Why didn't they write it? Well, they were unlettered that's why it wasn't recorded as it was recorded later on. And the day that people started relying on that which was written they started writing it, so don't blame them to say, Why wasn't it written? Because I will tell you why is this particular book not? For example, on a little microchip that came out yesterday? Well, now they will put it on the microchip,

Put in a disk where we have a lecture, or we have some beneficial talk, you have a series of lectures when I was a student.

They had in Medina to munawwara, some of the machines and the scholars who were there who had taught previously before our time, and they had cassettes. So they were libraries of cassettes up to this day, if you go to the Harlem in Mecca or Medina, you can actually get copies on discs of lectures that took place 20 years ago, they have an encyclopedia of it. So imagine you can learn from a scholar who is no longer from a scholar who has already passed on. And all you do is you purchase it. It has a disk, and the lessons are there. So if you have a 20 minute lesson, and it takes you 30 minutes to go to work. So behind Allah, you can have a lesson a day from a scholar who is very, very

highly educated, well recognized in the Muslim Ummah, and all you had to do was just make use of the 20 minutes while going to work and coming back. But the sad reality is, we don't think of it sometimes, because shavonne leads us astray. So rather than putting something beneficial, we rather have classical music, or we rather have some hip hop of someone, or we turn on the news, the news, it's okay, it's going to happen, you can hear the news once a day. And even that a little bit, I would prefer perhaps, to just check the internet and see what's happening on the globe. If you really have to

make use of your time, I hope I've encouraged you in a very strong way to make use of your time. Because you know, time is ticking. If you cannot attend a lesson, go to the institutions and ask them for books, books, perhaps, which might not be in the form of

a booklet in writing, but in the form of a disc, or in the form of something electronic. They call them ebooks. In fact, nowadays, they in a lot of schools, they are replacing the textbooks with a little iPad, sort of a device. And anything you want, you just click you could imagine we have it also for Islamic subjects. You can learn today, what is called elearning over the neck, you can attend the lesson today,

anywhere on the globe.

On most subjects that are available. A lot of subjects, you can choose from even Islamic subjects. And you can attend a lesson from an institution of your choice in a lot of cases, and it's just online. But you need the time you need the effort. You need the energy you need the sincerity.

May Allah subhanho wa Taala open our doors.

Then we have the issue of arrogance and pride. And when a person is arrogant, believe me they will not learn anything.

As we made mention of the Hadith of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam wherein he says whosoever learns the knowledge, whosoever is trying to learn knowledge in order to debate and argue, and in order to show up with that knowledge, they won't even have the sense of heaven. They won't even have the center of heaven. Because when we learn we are learning in order to enhance ourselves in order to improve our link with our maker. That's the intention. You learn the Quran. You know, a point of

reminder to us who are professionals here or who are a School of Arts at universities? How many books do you read?

In order to qualify?

Let's take a child primary level he comes back with homework every day. He's covered five, six books a year. And as you progress High School, you cover perhaps 5060 books a year. And when you get to varsity, perhaps you cover 100 books a year or more. And how do you study when you are to be tested? How do you study?

In our colloquial language, we say this man is sweating, sweating, meaning he's learning so hard. And he's actually all night people are awake, because they're learning tomorrow we have an examination. What's the subject? Well, you know, I'm becoming a doctor, and it's very difficult.

So the question I posed to you, question I posed to you,

if you could spend so much time, so much time, so much effort, so much dedication, to read 100 books, 200 books a year? Have you ever read the book that will save you

for the entire life after death? Have you yet read the

question? Have you read

It's about time we did something about it. I have done my own little, you know, quiet research and sometimes even with the children of my own friends, you said Hey, how you doing? You're like, come here. What books have you read?

He tells you, Harry Potter, certainly Harry Potter, what's Harry Potter? You know? What's that? This isn't you don't know what that what world you live in?

That's a question that they asked you what world you live in Harry Potter. You know, this Harry Potter one is two asleep this fall and there is a firewall. So, so then you say how big is the book? It's a big book, big book.

And then you say, Have you read the Quran?

I can't read

it. That's an answer. We get tried to teach the children.

have you covered it? Have you understood it? I can't understand it. But you understood Harry Potter.

Really?

Harry Potter is not going to teach you to heaven, believe me? Not at all.

If anything, all these magic tricks might take you in the other direction.

Allah protect us.

So what we're saying is,

let's have a bit of shame. inshallah. Let's try and equate dependency. In fact, it's supposed to be much more when it comes to religion. And you know what, today Alhamdulillah, just take a look at the Islamic bookstores. Take a peek, you will get books that people have come about with that are religiously, meaning teaching you a religious lesson. for all ages, from the beginning to the end, it's only that you need to purchase it. And it's only that you need to show the importance in the home of it. And you will have the stories of the prophets illustrated beautifully. You will have the rules of Islam illustrated beautifully. You have so many people who have worked on so many

syllabuses that it's amazing. If you were to adopt it within your home, you would become highly educated in such a short span of time.

Lo and behold, we don't understand why we say I'll do that tomorrow. We'll see when I go to market. There are a lot of bookstores, they don't wait for that. You can now google it online, you can find bookstores, you can purchase books. If we had to purchase something material today, a spare part for a vehicle or something we were quick to go online and look for it to check for the bargains on eBay and this other day and that day and so on, and quickly get it posted to us and sent to us Why? Because I need to survive. My car cannot start the ignition is not clicking. Now. What about your spiritual ignition not clicking, then what happens? Then sorted out sometimes don't worry, Friday

comes? Now I want to actually pose another question. How many of us

feel this way differently? How much Islamic knowledge new? When I say new? I mean, something renewed to us something we may not have known. How much new Islamic knowledge? Do we gain? earn or learn on a weekly basis? That's a question that will tell you how close or far we are a lot of us can I tell you what the answer would be? Well you know what on a Friday I go to the masjid and we hear a talk which is about half an hour.

Well, if that's what your religion is all about, every Friday, you just go and take a dose and that's it and you're gone. Perhaps you'll be reminded because as the Quran says whether killed in logic or somehow meaning you should remind for definitely reminding will benefit those who believe so yes, you will have a reminder, but you need solid knowledge you need to increase your knowledge base do something about it today you have evening lessons, you have afternoon lessons you have so many you know if our child is weak in a subject we have what they call remedial lessons, extra lessons, they want to go for extra lessons when I was young extra lessons was only for those who

were considered sick.

Today Mashallah. Every child extra lessons. So what are they doing at school? I don't know.

You want to have extra they come back to their learning more than when they were at school? So what did they do? We are paying so much 1000s we are paying to get them educated and I need to get someone coming home and still giving them coaching. remedial. Okay, that's okay. It's not bad. But did you equate it with something religious? If your child was equally weak in reading the Quran? Would you do the same? If your child did not know forget about the child if you did not know something? Regarding the deen, would you do the same? In a lot of cases? The answer would be well, you know, and stop there.

Now Allah subhanho wa Taala open our doors, I encourage yourself, yourselves and myself, to do more,

to learn to educate ourselves. And in no way am I saying that secular education is not important. No, it's very important but it will only help you for a few years.

If you take a look at

a certificate you have from the university How long will it help you for when you graduated? You were 25. That's more than 25 it will help you for another 35 years, then they will retire you they will retire you which means I've got a certificate now it's just framed at home. That's it but are you allowed

To practice this, you know, if not 3545 years if you're lucky. And after that you are retired. So that certificate helps you for 35 years or 45 years,

we still don't have a certificate that will take us beyond that. From there, it needs to carry us. And it needs to take us into the life after death, and help us forever and ever. So we were ready to spend so many years studying in order to get a certificate that would help us for 35 or 45 years, but we couldn't even spend one 10th of that time to help us to earn a certificate that would take us into the life after death, which is eternal.

Allah subhanho wa Taala opened our doors and grant us goodness, I hope what I said this evening has motivated us in terms of education and knowledge for ourselves as well as our children.
